HetzelMeade Communications (HMC) brings together more than three decades of strategic marketing, real-world editorial and proactive public relations to offer a unique business perspective with a fresh focus on marketing communications.
Our combined experience spans diverse industry sectors, encompassing start-ups and well-established organizations worldwide. The HMC team has a collective wealth of agency experience, from both sides of the PR "fence" as well as on the "receiving" end. This is what sets us apart. These are benefits our clients tell us they appreciate. We think you would too.
Sue Hetzel
Sue Hetzel is a 30-year marketing and PR veteran, who applies her years of both corporate and agency-side experiences to provide expert insight and hands-on strategic public relations support. In 2001, Sue and her husband, Peter Meade, a former technology journalist, started HetzelMeade Communications Inc., (HMC) in 2002. Since then, Sue has been instrumental in leading clients' company and product introductions and/or repositioning efforts along with global launches for a diverse mix of start-ups and well-established publicly traded companies.
Prior to HMC, Sue served as the chief marketing officer for PhatPipe, a Carlsbad, Calif.-based provider of broadband telecommunications services for the commercial real estate industry. She also served as a senior vice president at The Townsend Agency, where she developed and executed integrated public relations and advertising programs for various organizations across different industry segments, including storage, software, wireless, Internet, e-commerce, telecommunications, multimedia and professional services. Sue started her career with a six-year stint in publishing, holding a variety of editorial positions for Ziff-Davis Co. and McGraw-Hill Inc
After growing up in New Jersey and working in Philadelphia and New York City, a corporate relocation brought Sue to the west coast more years ago than she might admit. In her rare free time, Sue loves to repurpose unlikely vessels into creative succulent arrangements, plead with her vegetables to grow and feed the far too many birds in her yard. She also is the proud mother of a college student and serves as a personal servant to cats Saffy and Dobby.
Peter Meade
A former news, entertainment and tech journalist, Peter Meade started his career editing of all things—comics, including “Peanuts” and “Garfield” before interviewing everyone from Walter Cronkite to Julia Child, Carol Burnett and Fred Rogers as a writer for United Features Syndicate.
As a tech journalist, Peter worked at Communications Week as a reporter and then copy chief before serving in a succession of top editor spots at monthly trade publications, including Communications Consultant, Insurance & Technology, Voice Processing and America’s Network. In the late 1990s, he led the Advanced Carrier Strategies practice for Cahners In-Stat. Peter also served as conference director for two sets of international conferences, DSLcon and WDMcon.
Peter also has served as an independent consultant, columnist and freelance writer. His byline has appeared in publications such as Toronto Star, Telephony and The T-Sector while he also has been quoted in publications including The Wall Street Journal, San Diego Union Tribune, Los Angeles Times and Newsday. Since co-founding HMC, Peter has played a pivotal role in driving proactive media relations.
A native of Long Island, N.Y., Peter now has lived in the San Diego area for more than 40% of his life. In his spare time, he takes photos, reads, listens to Yacht Rock, watches sports with his son and walks his Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Mr. Darcy and Lizzy.
Lisa Grau
A PR veteran of 25 years, Lisa applies her corporate and agency-side experiences to provide clients with expert insights and hands-on implementation support on a wide range of public relations fundamentals, including communications strategy, media and analyst relations, channel PR programs and product launches.
She formerly was a vice president at Brodeur Partners, a communications consultancy serving the high-technology sector. During more than a decade with the agency, she helped grow its Phoenix-based office to a staff of 30 and was responsible for all aspects of client management.
Lisa has built incredible relationships with various constituencies in the high-tech arena and at national business publications. She maintains proactive media and trade analyst relations programs for a variety of clients and has great relationships with the media covering IT, technology, wireless, verticals, business and the channel.
She lives in Carlsbad, Calif., with her husband Matthew and two children, Rilee and Wyatt. Lisa is active in school and sports activities. Are you looking for a traditional PR agency or are you ready for a change? If a change is in your forecast, then HMC might be right for you. HMC was founded in 2002 on the principle of change. After all, change, in many cases, is good. Our world isn't standing still, so why should your PR program?
